Choose a key, then shift the pitch of the incoming audio signal using the box on the right of the scales if you choose. Set the key of the song by choosing from the drop-down menu. Look below that to set the key and scale of your pitch correction. To the left, you can choose your vocal register. The circle in the middle indicates how accurate the vocal is. First, Nectar 3 has wonderful visual feedback for its effects modules. The interface sports a streamlined approach to auto Pitch. Lucky for us, Nectar 3 includes a highly functional auto Pitch module in their lineup of effects. Pitch correction is an essential tool in modern production. Below we will go over the function of each module and tell what we do and do not like about it. These modules include an (auto)Pitch, Compressor, EQ, DeEsser, Delay, Dimension, Gate, Saturation, harmony, and Reverb. Nectar 3 operates as a multi-effects unit including ten modules that can be organized into any order you like. The Nectar 2 pitch editor did have an intuitive user interface, that we’ll say. Melodyne, however, is equally intuitive, we’ll dive into the workflow after reviewing the effects modules of Nectar 3 below. Not once did we experience that with Nectar 3 and Melodyne Essential 4, for that we tip our hats to Izotope and Celemony. Resizing the window caused our systems to lag nine out of ten times, and we were lucky if it worked correctly after that without restarting the session. It felt transparent enough in the tuning but its drawbacks were too much to bother with it. Nectar 2 utilized its own pitch editor which was clunky and buggy. In addition to the assistive technology and updated look, Nectar 3 comes bundled with Melodyne Essential 4 for pitch editing. This technology has proven itself beyond useful in Neutron and Ozone, and we believe it has done so again here. Much like those two plugins Nectar 3 utilizes an assistive technology that can make automated adjustments to your effects’ parameters.
#Review izotope nectar 3 update#
It’s a welcome update as we see new features that allow it to seamlessly integrate with other Izotope plugins like Neutron 2 and Ozone 8. The look is cleaner, easier to navigate, and actually fun to use.

The interface matches that of its most recently updated plugins: Neutron, Ozone, and Vocal Synth 2 (if we missed any that rock the new look comment below). Below, Nectar 2 can be seen on the left while the updated Nectar 3 is on the right. Nectar 3 is the newest version of the multi-effects plugin, following Nectar 2, and sports a shiny new look that we love. This speaks to the ease and power that Nectar 3 brings to the table. We found it incredibly easy to replicate the sound between the two. This implementation looks pretty similar to Sound Radix Surfer EQ and can, one assumes, also be used to change the balance of harmonics to fundamental frequencies for to create a tonal control that dynamically adjusts to the source melody. We tested out Nectar 3 using Ableton Live 10 and compared its effects to a combination of Soundtoys and Ableton Live’s native effects. As demonstrated in the video above, this can be used to set up a low-cut filter below the fundamental note of a sung vocal, removing any unwanted low-end noise below that point. Other handy features in Nectar 3 include dynamic EQ nodes and a style of EQ node that will follow a specific harmonic of your vocal. Working on the assumption that the vocal is the most important part of the mix, iZotope’s Relay listens to your vocal and makes sure that the track that its placed on does not interfere with it. Relay, meanwhile, can be applied to non-vocal tracks in order to ‘unmask’ your vocal.

This sets parameters such as input level, gate hold time, corrective EQ curves, character EQ, compression settings, de-essing threshold and more. Vocal Assistant listens to your vocal recording then suggests a starting point for your settings. Top billing should probably go to Vocal Assistant and its partner plug-in Relay. Their latest advancement, Nectar 3 is a very serious update to their vocal processing plug-in. Their RX suite of audio repair tools are an industry standard and with their plug-ins, both on the the creative production side and on those for mixing and mastering, they seem constantly to be breaking new ground. Boston-based plug-in pros iZotope have made some truly impressive leaps forward with their processors in recent year.
